Abstract. Strong seismic excitations can induce considerable displacements in base-isolated structures. These may turn cause damage to the isolation system or impacts against adjacent structures event of an insufficient gap. A strategy reducing be achieved through interposition, between isolated structure and structures, deformable dissipative devices, called bumpers. In this paper, response single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems subjected sine whose are limited by optimally designed bumpers analyzed, being according optimal design criterion.
